Research Fellow
for a Brussels-based euro-realist think tank
New Direction – The Foundation for European Reform is a Brussels-based think tank that challenges the EU orthodoxy and aims to give substance to the Prague Declaration of the European Conservatives and Reformist Group (ECR), providing decision makers with well researched material and effective policy options.
The Foundation wishes to appoint a Research Fellow as soon as possible. Based in Brussels, the successful candidate will be working on a relevant and important research topic for publication by New Direction, support the other research work and activities of the Foundation, and be able to produce authoritative comment on topical issues at short notice.
The Research Fellow will have:
• A well-developed proposal for a suitable research project;
• Excellent understanding of political and economic affairs related to Europe;
• A first class or upper second degree (or equivalent), ideally a post-graduate having already completed a second degree or with one underway;
• A mind fertile with relevant, soundly based, ideas and the drive to get things done;
• Ideally a track record of relevant published works;
• Excellent writing and presentation skills in English;
• Broad commitment to the aims of New Direction and the values and principles outlined in the Prague Declaration of the ECR;
• Capability, flexibility and self-motivation to ensure timely completion of a research project and support others in theirs;
• Ability to respond quickly to short-notice demands for authoritative comment;
• fluency in a language other than English would be an advantage.
The successful candidate will be Brussels-based, able to operate effectively in an international environment, have the motivation and flexibility to meet demands as required and travel if necessary, and loyally represent New Direction and its related organisations.
Salary etc. will be set according to the background and experience of the candidate. The New Direction Board is willing to appoint this post as soon as possible.
