Barbara Kolm

Director and Founder

Barbara Kolm is President of the Friedrich A. v. Hayek Institute in Vienna, Austria, Founding Director of the Austrian Economics Center, and Vice President of the Österreichische Nationalbank (Austrian Central Bank). A worldwide networker, Kolm is renowned for promoting free market policies. She is a frequent speaker on public policy related issues, especially on deregulation and competition, the future of Europe and Austrian Economics. Barbara Kolm is an Associate Professor of Austrian Economics at the University of Donja Gorica, Montenegro and serves on several advisory boards. She is a Member of the Mont Pèlerin Society. Federico N. Fernández

Senior Research Fellow

Federico N. Fernández is Executive Director at Somos Innovación (a Latin American pro innovation alliance), Senior Research Fellow with the Austrian Economics Center (Vienna, Austria) and Founder and President of Fundación Internacional Bases (Rosario, Argentina). He is also the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Conference “The Austrian School of Economics in the 21st Century,” which in 2021 will take place in Vienna. Federico’s writings and advocacy campaigns have been featured at The Economist (UK), El País (Spain), Yahoo Finance (USA), El Comercio (Perú), Correio Popular (Brazil), Newsweek (USA), Asahi Shimbun (Japan), and La Nación (Argentina), among others. He has delivered speeches and lectures in three continents, is author of scholarly articles, and is the co-editor of the books “The indispensability of freedom” (2020), “An Austrian in Argentina: Essays in honor of Alberto Benegas Lynch (Jr)” (2015), and “La escuela austríaca de economía en el siglo XXI” (2007).


Martin Gundinger

Senior Research Fellow

Martin Gundinger joined the Austrian Economics Center in 2016 as a Research Fellow. Besides being an economist, he has many areas of interest, ranging from computer science to medicine. He is passionate about cutting-edge technology and a strong believer in the power of human ingenuity and individual freedom. He is also a member of the Research Team at the Hayek Institute.


Felix Kleibel


Felix Kleibel joined the Austrian Economics Center in September 2017. In addition to research, he assists with studies and event organization and is responsible for video editing. He is also a member of the Research Team at the Hayek Institute.


Scott B. Nelson

Research and Strategy Advisor

Scott B. Nelson joined the Austrian Economics Center in January 2020. In addition to research and producing YouTube videos, he is an advisor on strategy for the AEC. Nelson is also Research and Strategy Advisor at the Hayek Institute. His areas of interest and specialization include political philosophy, history, and classics. In addition to lecturing on politics and philosophy, publishing scholarly articles and commentary, Nelson’s latest book is Tragedy and History: The German Influence on Raymond Aron’s Political Thought. He is presently co-authoring a book on Cicero and prudence in politics.


Britt Schier

Head of Office

Britt Schier is the Head of Office at the Austrian Economics Center. In her position, she is responsible for public relations, event management, administration, Human Resources, and the overall management of the AEC’s day-to-day affairs. She is also the Head of Office at the Hayek Institute.


Victoria Schmid

Marketing and Event Coordinator

Victoria Schmid joined the Austrian Economics Center in February 2017. She is responsible for organizing events, including the Free Market Road Show and European Resource Bank, coordinating our marketing strategy, graphic design, and editing reports. She is also Marketing and Event Coordinator at the Hayek Institute.


Kai Weiss

Research and Outreach Coordinator

Kai Weiss joined the Austrian Economics Center in January 2017. He is responsible for content creation, both in the form of articles as well as research studies. In addition, he manages the social media pages, is editor-in-chief of the blog, and is involved in outreach work, establishing cooperations to spread the message of liberty. Weiss is also a board member of the Hayek Institute. His areas of interest and specialization include EU politics, environmental policy, Catholic theology, and political ideologies.
